INSPIRATIONAL TALKS AT SILLC

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY AT SILLC
Spectrum Integrated Life Learning
Center (SILLC) pronounced “Silk” is a human capacity building organization with
a mandate to transform society through a highly systematic form of informal
education specially tailored to suite the prevailing socio-economic climate of
Africa.
At SILLC, we believe that the
education of man should be wholistic. Man’s education is not complete until it
addresses the seven areas of life, namely: Mental, Emotional, Social,
Spiritual, Financial, Relational, and Physical (Biological).
We believe that any individual or
group of individuals who intend to function beyond mere existence or survival
in today’s fast paced and complex world must be armed with all that is required
to thrive and flourish. Qualitative and quantitative education is the answer to
living beyond most of the ills of humanity.
It is true that the rise of nations
from the times of antiquity to the modern times was built on this premise. The
Renaissance Era of much of what we call Europe today were the progenitors of
the Victorian Age and the thriving societies of the Western world. Britain,
Germany, France and America came into limelight because they were the field of
play of the Industrial Revolution of 1900s. The Renaissance period was
characterized by learning in all fields. One notable champion of this time was
Leonardo Da Vinci, who is perhaps the most remarkable human who ever lived. He
was proficient as a Painter, a Sculptor, an Engineer, a Mathematician, a
Musician, a Philosopher and as a government adviser. Leonardo was able to
achieve all this because of the complete education he received. His famous
painting “Mona Lisa” in 1996 was valued at about One Million Pounds (Guinness
Book of World Records).
In the 1980s, Japan rose from the
relics of the second World War to global acclaim with their manufacture of the
most advanced kind of Electronics. They achieved this and more because they
tailored their educational system to suite their socio-economic and cultural
peculiarities. The story is true for the Scandinavian countries of Norway,
Sweden, Finland and Denmark. If Nigeria must rise, we must do the same. Until
the government of Nigeria and indeed Africa wakes up to this reality, progress
will only be a word found in the dictionary.
